About Us
History
Rosenberg-Richmond Helping Hands is a non-profit organization
formed by area churches to help people in crisis by providing
basic needs on a short-term basis. Our goal is to provide
assistance temporarily until the individual or family becomes
self-sufficient.
It is a part of our
Christian calling to minister to those in need. Some churches
have their own programs with successful histories of providing
similar services. Helping Hands in no way wants to compete with
these groups. By coordinating all the resources of our
supporters we are able to provide more efficient services. We
tap public and private resources, share responsibility and
reduce the duplication of services.
Structure
We are supported by donations of food, money and clothing.
These donations come from churches, private individuals, civic
organizations, private foundations and corporations. Covenant
churches sign a pledge with Helping Hands promising financial
support and at least two yearly food and clothing drives. Some
churches go well beyond this.
A Board of Directors, drawn
from member churches, oversee the policies, programs, and
guidelines for assistance given to clients in crisis:.
Our assistance is limited to
clients who live in West Fort Bend County. (see map on back for
boundaries) Two forms of ID are required and proof of
residency, such as a current utility bill. Acceptable ID can be
a Social Security card, Texas ID or drivers license, birth
certificate, or voter registration card.
Files are kept on all clients.
We use past information to help judge what assistance we can
give. Documents are also kept if we are unable to assist.
Helping Hands always welcomes
new churches and organizations to join in our efforts. Our
center is staffed by volunteers. Those interested in volunteer
training can contact the center at (281) 232-4904 for more
information.
